WARRINGTON SCHOOL (column)

WARRINGTON SCHOOL

by Nathan Parker, June Anderson and Peter Dowden

Building work has started at our school, beginning with the former
school teacher's house being converted to a proper admin block and
multi-purpose space.

Work on the school building will occur during the holidays with the
new cloak bay and enlarging of Rooms 1 and 2. We hope to continue
teaching around the building process, possibly having to work from the
new multi-purpose space (once completed) and the library.

Our annual Wawa Challenge sport event with Waitati School was finally
run as the 'Wa Challenge' as Waitati were unable to join us this term.
Well done to all the competitors and congratulations to Tait who won
this closely-contested race.

Congratulations to Gracie and Devon who represented Warrington at the
Otago Swimming Championships with over 500 competitors from across
Otago. Both achieved personal best times in their events and Devon was
placed 4th for freestyle and 3rd in backstroke.

Kids' Lit Quiz

After several weeks practising answering quiz questions, the
Warrington team - Izzie, Florence, Eva and Andrea - took part in the
Year 6 -8 Literature Quiz at Dunedin North Intermediate School. The
girls answered 100 questions about books, authors, characters, titles.
They answered many of the questions correctly and won a book prize
each at the end of one round. There were even questions for the
audience, the support crew
of Elspeth, Carmel and Rob all took home book prizes too. Warrington
team can be very proud of their reading knowledge and recall.

We had a disco on the last day of Term 1 at the Warrington with a
"black and white" theme.

Our Surfing group has had its last session for the season and next
term we will be getting involved in Netball and Hockey, while some of
us will be involved in Soccer at Waitati.
