Possible changes to library opening hours include staying open until
7pm on Mondays, until 6pm on Thurdsys and cutting back to 6pm (from
8pm) on Fridays. On Saturdays we would open and close one hour earler,
that is 10am-2pm. Please send your comments on these proposed new
hours back to the Blueskin Bay Library by Friday 14 December.
The completion of this beautiful banner is well in hand. But more
hands would be welcome. Even if you have not been one of the workers
so far, and if you enjoy needlework, painting, and would like to be
involved, leave your name and contact details at the library so that
Kate can contact you.
Here is the rhubarb cake that some of you have already sampled. It
also tastes nice made with raw sugar and wholemeal flour. Bon Apetit!
1 pound fresh rhubarb
4 ounces butter
3 ounces sugar plus extra for sprinkling (It's nice with raw sugar.)
4 ounces flour. (It can be made with wholemeal flour)
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Prepare the rhubarb by trimming off the leafy tops and the pale pink
root slivers at the base of each stalk. Rinse and chop into 1-inch
Cream the butter and sugar together and when light and fluffy, add
eggs one at a time beating well. Fold in the flour and the ground
ginger. Spoon the mixture into a greased and lined 8-inch tin. Cover
with the prepared rhubarb and sprinkle with sugar.
3 ounces butter
4 ounces flour
2 ounces sugar
Icing sugar to finish.
Make the topping by rubbing the butter into the flour until it
resembles breadcrumbs and stir in the sugar. Spoon the crumbs over the
rhubarb. Bake for _ hour until firm and springy to the touch.
Allow to cool. Dust with icing sugar before serving.
As usual, we have our stories for little ones in the Library every
Friday at 10.30. Come along and enjoy.
The Library at Warrington
This month we will be at Warrington School on Wednesday 12 December
2-3pm. We hope to see you there.
Poetry Book (WIN A PRIZE!)
This is taking longer than we thought, but will be worth the wait.
We have a title. Frances Russell won the competition to name our book
with her suggestion, 'Blueskin Poets'. We liked the simplicity and
directness of Frances' idea. Thank you to Blueskin Nurseries for
donating the prize for this competition.
The poems themselves are collated, typed, and ready for printing. Now
all we need is a cover. The competition calling for children to design
the cover has not had many entries, and so we are extending the
deadline to Friday, November 30. There is a prize for the winning
design. Be in! Be sure that your design is on the historic first copy
of 'Blueskin Poets'! Any design will be considered, as long as it is
on an A4 sheet, and has the words 'Blueskin Poets 2007' prominently
displayed. Good luck!
Bye from Louise, Carolyn, Helen, Kate, Amanda, Mike and Meaghan.
