few years on the great services and support that Plunket Volunteers
can provide for families with young children. The Waitati-Warrington
sub branch of volunteers was amalgamated with Waikouaiti-Karitane,
leading to the group now being mainly based in Waikouaiti, We would
like this to change with more people on board south of the Kilmog.
Plunket is a national organisation that employs Plunket nurses, staffs
helplines, runs parents centres, lobbies governments and raises funds.
All activities at a local level are organised by volunteers.
It is the goal in our area that no parent/caregiver finds themselves
isolated and without a way to meet others. We provide activities and
support available to all parents: playgroups, coffee mornings, music
groups, opportunities to socialise our children and have some fun for
the adults too!
We give parents of all new babies in the area a pack of useful local
information and product samples. We facilitate swimming lessons for
the under-5s at Hawksbury Village pool subsidised by a grant from the
Bendigo Trust. We have car seats and Portacots available to hire. We
organise parenting courses, speakers, volunteer training and
We are looking forward to celebrating Plunket's first 100 years at
Karitane in December, watch this space for details.
Our annual appeal is coming up 13-21 October, please look out for our
door to door collectors, and collection containers. Funds collected in
the area stay in the area! If you are able to help collect we would
love to hear from you.
We have 4-5 volunteer committee meetings per year and have 3-4
fundraisers. If you would like to talk to us about becoming a Plunket
volunteer or offer any help, please contact us or come along to our
next meeting: Mon 8 October 7.30pm Waikouaiti Library.
