Waitati village cricket report

Game 1: (exhibition match) Wicken Village v Blandings Castle CC

The log was lost but Village won with 169 runs to Castle's 139. Nic
Prosser was Player of the Day for batting and bowling. Brent Bell and
D Hodgson were best bat and bowl respectively for Castle in this
'friendly' (non-competition) match.

Game 2: Wicken Village v Blandings Castle CC

Village won with 104/9 with 2 balls to spare. Blandings castle
achieved 98 all out. Nic Prosser and Brent Bell were the batsmen of
the day; Nic hitting a Six off the hapless Rakish to claim victory.
Brent Bell almost got 50. Village's fielding proved the difference in
this very tight game.

Game 3: Blandings Castle CC v Athletic

Castle climbed to 151, the highest score ever on Bland Park No 1.
Brent Bell was brilliant hitting 57 before being caught by Oxley.
Hodgson hit 39 before Gordon put a stop to him. In a nail-biting
finish James for Athletic smashed a Four to provide a winning 153/8
with 5 balls to spare. Jack hit a magnificent 70 for Athletic but the
difference was Paddy and Baden Oxley who quickly dispatched 20 runs
between them to bring Athletic within striking range. Jordan's batting
was courageous; Jon Appleby's captainship was well deserved.

Game 4:Wicken Village v Athletic

Frank O'Neill was arrogant in deciding Village would not need to play
Athletic in the round to reach the final. The unlikely Athletic win,
follwed by O'Neill's lack of maths acumen led to Wicken Village
defaulting to Athletic. Bonus points gave a final place to castle
against the unbeaten Athletic. Village finish third out of three.
